Garden Plans

Because I am trying to eat healthier and organic produce can be fairly expensive, I have decided to plant a small garden this summer. Okay, so it is going to be four raised beds and that really isn't small, but it is small for a Hanson woman...

The first bed will be eight feet long by four feet wide and I am going to plant four tomato plants, two bell pepper plants, two jalapeno plants and two heads of cabbage.

The second bed will be eight feet long by four feet wide and will have green beans, wax beans, peas, spinach, and two kinds of lettuce.

The third bed will be four feet wide by four feet long and will have strawberries (my favorite food ever).

The fourth bed will be four feet wide by four feet long and be the herb garden with basil, rosemary, thyme, parsley, chives and cilantro.

I will also have a separate container for growing mint (as it spreads like crazy) for our mojitos.

We were looking at the Menard's brochure and we guess it will cost about $150 for lumber and other supplies. The dirt may come from our friend's field (as he has a skid steer we could use to load it along with a trailer to haul it). Otherwise we will have to purchase the dirt too. But for under $250 total (including the plants) we should have a great garden with lots of fresh produce!

I am so excited to get out and get it started! I just wish we had the money right now to purchase the lumber and other supplies so that we could at least get them built BEFORE it is time to plant!!! Federal Rebate Check needed ASAP!!!
