Flu Shot Anyone?

This afternoon I am getting the flu shot. I am not excited about it. I am excited about two hours in the spa getting my hair done this afternoon. Oops, I digress... Back to the flu shot dilemma.

Two years ago, I didn't get the flu shot and I ended up getting the flu.

Last year I did get the flu shot and I still ended up getting the flu.

Our Midwife recommends getting the regular flu shot and the H1N1 shot as soon as possible (shots need to be given at least 30 days apart from each other) for both myself and my husband. William has never had a flu shot and doesn't think they work (as evidenced from my experience last year with the shot and the flu...) But since the baby cannot get the shots, she says that it is best that all people around the baby receive the shots.

I will end up getting both shots, but feel very conflicted about vaccinating for all the illnesses/diseases that vaccines are available for. I just wish there was a simple answer that was right for me and my family.

  1. I am usually not a fan of flu shots either, but I have heard that pregnant women should definitely get the H1N1 shot this year - if that makes you feel any better. Have fun at the spa!

  2. Have you read "The Vaccine Book"? Very informative. Written by a doctor and it's not one sided like most vaccine material. He covers how they are made, what's in each one (and whats in the combo shots). He also outlines a couple delayed schedules as well.
